Tao Zongwang, who has a thousand-jin strength in his arms and is good at using a shovel, is from Guangzhou and is known as the Nine-tailed Turtle. After Song Jiang was rescued in Jiangzhou, he met Ou Peng, Tao Zongwang and four others at Huangmen Mountain when he returned to Liangshan. Tao Zongwang and others have since surrendered to Liangshan and are the 75th hero of Liangshan. During the expedition against Fang La, in order to seize the gate of Runzhou, he used the strength of his arms to carry the thousand-jin iron gate, but was stabbed to death by the enemy general. He is the first hero to die in Liangshan.
First of all, after becoming a bandit, the Nine-tailed Turtle Tao Zongwang's position was the director of the engineering department, that is, he was responsible for building some buildings such as the city wall of Liangshan Lake. Fighting and fighting should not be his strong point, but as mentioned above, his arms have a thousand-jin strength, which can show that his martial arts are at least acceptable, at least he is superior in strength. It's a pity that he has very few opportunities to show up, far less than his fellow mountain brother Ou Peng. This also doomed his short life in the book.
In the entire Water Margin, the battle against Fang La was undoubtedly the most tragic one. Some died in Liangshan, some left. Only 30% of the original 108 heroes survived, and Tao Zongwang was the first hero to die. During the battle against Fang La, the Liangshan heroes died in different ways. Xu Ning was shot to death by poison arrows, Yang Zhi and Shi Qian died of illness, Hao Siwen was tortured to death, Meng Kang was beaten into a pulp, Qin Ming was stabbed to death, and Deng Fei was hacked to death. In short, there were many kinds of deaths, and the deaths of the above people were quite resentful and somewhat cowardly. However, Tao Zongwang, who we are talking about, died heroically. He resisted the thousand-jin iron gate just to seize the city gate, just to help Liangshan win quickly, just to reduce the sacrifice, but in the end, he died. In Chinese textbooks, "Water Margin" is defined as "telling about peasant uprisings." It is not difficult to find that among the Liangshan heroes, most of them are hooligans, or soldiers and officials, and then local rich people. The only ones who can really be defined as "peasant uprisings" are the fishermen, hunters, and the only real peasant is Tao Zongwang. Therefore, Tao Zongwang is the representative of the Liangshan peasant uprising, and only he deserves the title of peasant uprising army.
